Peek-A-Boo

Have you heard of Toms?

If not, allow me to introduce you by directing you to their website...www.toms.com.
They have a mission to match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. Not only is their mission pretty incredible, but their shoes are so comfy.
I love them so much that mine looked like this...

It appears that my big toe was trying to play peek-a-boo! Don't get me wrong, that did not stop me from wearing them but  I thought perhaps I should do something about the hole before my entire toe became visible.

So I went to one of my favorite places...Hobby Lobby and grabbed some iron on patches for jeans, fabric glue, and material and I got to work...or I mean my grandma got to work...she was around and offered to help so how could I say no? She is simply the best!

First we covered each of the holes with iron on jean patches.  This is just to make sure that once we put the new fabric over the top that my toe is not going to pop right back through.

Then it was as easy as doing a little "nipping and tucking" until we got the fabric just how we wanted it. I pinned the fabric to hold it into place to make sure we had it just the way we wanted it before making it permanent.

Once it was laid out, I took a couple of pins out at a time and just used this glue to glue it down. Then, I replaced the pins to make sure it dried exactly how I wanted it to.

I let the glue dry overnight and then I took all the pins out and ta-da...

My grandma asked about half way through the project why I was not just buying a new pair if I loved them so much. I told her it was because they cost between $40-60. And she responded, "I thought you just got done explaining to me what a great cause it was. Just think if you get another pair, so will another kid."

Touche, grandma! I do love these...

Decisions, decisions!

I have been Pinteresting again!

I love the "Eat" signs in all of these kitchens so I started crafting!

I made a quick trip to Hobby Lobby and I picked up the letters. I went with the chipboard ones because they are so light so hanging them would not be an issue.

They were $0.99 each.
Everything else I already had...fabric, paint, mod podge, and a foam paint brush.

First I painted the letters...candy apple green.

Then I cut the flowers out of the fabric that I had left over from the curtains in the family room and the living room.  I moved them around a couple of times until I decided just how I wanted them.

Then I covered the back of the fabric with the mod podge and placed it on the letters. I smoothed it out and then put a thick coat over the entire letter, flowers and all.

Once they were dry, I put them on the window frame above the sink in the kitchen.

The whole project was just $3!

Entry Table

Wednesday, April 11, 2012
I have been looking for the perfect little table to go right inside our front door. The space was bare and since the wall are just white it was looking pretty neglected.

I searched and searched for the perfect table but I just could not find anything that I loved for the right price. When I was home visiting my parents one weekend, I journeyed up to my parents attic. It is full of random stuff...unused furniture, holiday decorations, childhood keepsakes, and lo and behold, the perfect table for my entry! I convinced my mom to let me have it...for free!

I brought it home and stuck it in the place and it fit great (the sign above the table was a Christmas gift from my grandparents!).  Of course I could not leave well enough alone because the table had seen better days...

I think it took lots of abuse from 7 kids and a large collection of animals at my parents house but it was solid wood so I sanded and sanded and ended up with this...

It was a very messy process but I sanded until the wood was smooth and the original finish was gone. Then I wiped it down, let it dry, and gathered my supplies.

The paint was left over from when I did the buffet in my front room, as well the polyacrylic, so I just had to purchase the primer. I went with a grey spray primer and it did the trick. I bought two cans of primer so in total it cost me $6!

Two coats of primer...

Then two coats of the Gulf Shores Blue and then two coats of  polyacrylic.
Why two coats of each? I have no idea that just what I was feeling I guess.

I let it dry for a couple of days then brought it in! I used an extra knob from the buffet so once again it was free! In total the project cost $8...$6 for primer and then $2 for sand paper.
